Practising Self Care: How important is it?

Practising Self Care: How important is it?

We all have responsibilities, roles to play in our everyday lives, right? Mother, father, student, teacher, employee, boss, decision maker… whew! And to think this list doesn’t even begin to scratch the surface of the amount of work we all do on the daily.

To us, this says that self care has never been more important than it is now - COVID and lockdowns aside, the world has us BUSY! Whether you’re juggling family life, work or school, stress can slip in and rear it’s ridiculously hideous head at any time.

Self care isn’t so much about being selfish, it’s about resting and refreshing yourself so you can show up as a better version of Y-O-U, and who doesn’t want that to happen? Here’s a few tips we’ve gathered to help you practice the art of self care at home:

Know when to say ‘No’

Oh boy, we’ve all been here - you have just said yes to something when your head was screaming NO! If you even question why you are saying yes to doing something that will take you away from doing something else you love, then the answer is simple: Choose you, say no.

Exercise regularly

Seems like a no-brainer, but even the best of us forget that a simple sweat session can help you see things from a different perspective, while you work that stress outta your body! Having a daily workout routine or a plan to get moving will help you stay motivated. Don’t take our word for it, give it a try for 2 weeks then see how you feel (you’re welcome).

Eat healthy

Another simple tip, but it is #truth. Filling up on McDs and KFC won’t help you with your health goals, but planning meals that are healthy and fresh will. We’re not saying ditch your eating out treat foods - we love our sundaes from McDonalds -  just limit how much you have them.

Manage your stress

This tip is open ended, but it had to be here. There are a plethora of ways for you to manage your stress starting like yoga and mediation, but we also like other alternative forms like floatation therapy, acupuncture and massages. Definitely worth a monthly treat budgeted into your self care time!

Get enough SLEEP!

To us at Sleep Heavy, this tip is the most important one - it’s what got our founders Cory and Indy investing in their first weighted blanket. Sleep is important for our brain, body and emotional health, and when we don’t get enough? Oof - it shows and we feel it! If you’re having issues, we definitely recommend you have a read of our blog about the struggle to sleep and then check out our blankets and their reviews… we guarantee you’ll get your best night’s sleep yet with us! ;)
